Background

The work of Y Bont is mainly undertaken through the work of the Family Support Centre.

Cartref Bontnewydd Trust was established by Robert Bevan Ellis in 1898. His vision was to create a safe refuge for orphaned children or for those unable to remain at home with their families.

Over the past 100 years the original work of providing an orphanage has been extended. The Family Support Centre’s remit continues to develop and change in order to meet the needs of children and young people in today’s society.

Today, the work of the centre, its workforce and the range of services we offer are vital in order to address the needs of and provide support for children and young people who, for whatever reasons, are or are at risk of being separated from their families.

Chaired by Ms Gwawr Maelor, the members of Y Bont represent a wide range of backgrounds and interests.
